The entertainments’ neighbourhood in Cannes, the Allées de la Liberté are lined with crafts, flowers, merchants and entertainments. They are animated every week-end.

The Music Kiosk 

Built in 1880 by Louis Hourlier, the music kiosk in the Allées de la Liberté is part of the historical landmarks of Cannes. Afterwards, it was inaugurated by Emile Gazagnaire. It is used every year during the music festivals.

The Flower Market

Cannes is nothing but colourful thanks to all of the flowers one may find. The freshness of the plants as well as their beauty fill the locals and the tourists with awe. Specialised gardeners organise this lovely flower market.

The Crafts Market 

Craftsmen and sculptors display their artworks in the Allées de la Liberté. This crafting event takes place every week-end.

The flea market

Every week-end, second-hand sellers display their old objects. This market brings in nostalgia thanks to its second-hand and historical objects that can be bought for an affordable price. It entertains customers.

The Chemin des Étoiles

Similarly to Los Angeles, Cannes also possesses its little area where the stars leave their handprints and signature to satisfy the tourists. This area can be found opposite the Palais des Festivals.

The Mouldings

140 mouldings of handprints decorate the cobblestones of the city of Cannes, from stars (famous or not so much). This act completed by different artists allows the public to touch, take photos with or simply admire these autographs.

Cannes and the Croisette 

The Croisette in Cannes 

A specialty of the city of Cannes, the Croisette is one of the most famous road in the world thanks to its promenade, lined with palm and pine trees. The landscape of the Croisette remains one of the most beautiful in the world.

Birth of the Croisette 

Built in 1853 after a recommendation by the mayor Barbe, the Croisette was a 5m long path. This construction was considered a touristic development.

Sand and Swamps

According to its history, the Croisette was once a simple dirt path used by donkeys. Its name used to be ‘Crouseto’, meaning little cross, hence the name Croisette. It was invaded by swamps and tons of sand reaching heights of 15m.

Weather Station 

In 1834, Lord Brougham innovated the area to make the rich visitors envious. Then, Lord Brougham brought railways into the city.

The Croisette today 

Now three kilometres long, the Croisette is full of life and activities for those strolling along the promenade. It has greatly evolved since 1874 as the boulevard was opened to traffic.

The Suquet

The Hill

Cannes is a city which was originally built on a hill, as historically it was the best way to protect yourself from attacks, particularly since Cannes is a Mediterranean city. The Suquet was also called Mont-Chevalier, reaches heights of 66m and is located to the east of the bay.

The Square Tower

The Square Tower is a remnant of the castle where audacious visitors will climb to experience the greatest view on the bay of Cannes. It is part of the historical landmarks of Cannes, and one of its most important assets.

The medieval streets

Full of sloping streets, the Old Town has the oldest street of the city: the Saint Antoine Street. The medieval streets are picturesque and easy to follow. It is a part of history.

The Museum of the Castre

The Museum of the Castre is a location which boast a large collection of ancient object, The museum was a gift to Cannes from the Dutch aristocrat Baron Lycklamad, according to the popular belief.
